Neuromuscular & Orthopedic Therapies

What Is Neuromuscular Therapy?
Neuromuscular therapy (NMT) is a precise, thorough examination and treatment of the body’s soft tissues using regionally oriented protocols that are taught in a step-by-step process. These time-tested, hands-on techniques are built upon a science-based foundation and guided by clinical evidence. NMT can integrate well into any practice setting and is frequently included in mainstream medicine.
The best way to explain what we do is by using the analogy of SillyPutty. When SillyPutty is cold and you pull it apart it snaps, but as you knead it, the friction and heat from your hands makes the compound malleable so you can methodically mold it to the shape you desire.
The fascia that surrounds one’s muscles is no different, this is why when you have a sore neck, it is at its worst when you wake up in the morning; if you move your neck and try to stretch it out, there is a catching feeling. However as you warm up, more movement is allowed and pain subsides. Our unique, complete hands-on approach, to muscular pain allows us to achieve instant relief.
The muscles are warmed up through the heat and friction of our hands. Once the tissue becomes malleable, we gradually lengthen the muscles and remove trigger points (knots). The strokes we use are intuitive, slow and deliberate, meaning that we will reach your pain producing spots without you even telling us. Effectively, your muscles are kneaded back into its resting (pain free) state, giving instant pain relief. As the tissue cools down, it stays set in its correct position, giving lasting relief.
NMT is highly effective for clients who present with chronic pain and is often successful in reducing or eliminating even longstanding painful conditions. Some of the techniques can also be applied to acute injuries and for post-surgical care; many help to improve performance in sports and prevent injuries.

What is Orthopedic Massage Therapy?
The term orthopedic means pain with movement. Orthopedic massage therapy describes a comprehensive system, rather than a single technique, that involves therapeutic assessment, manipulation and movement of soft tissues to resolve pain and dysfunction. Orthopedic massage therapy focuses on restoring structural balance throughout the body for both prevention and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal dysfunctions.
Orthopedic massage therapy takes a multidisciplinary approach and works with you as an active participant in your recovery. Orthopedic massage therapy looks beyond the massage session to the origin of the pain either from trauma-induced injuries or postural imbalances that exacerbate the pain through daily activities. Common orthopedic conditions can stem from sports injuries, postural imbalances due to poor work ergonomics, chronic pain and scar tissue from surgery or traumatic injury.
Orthopedic massage therapy can be used to identify and correct conditions such as: sciatica -scoliosis -rib pain -forward head postures - anterior scalene syndrome - Dowager's Humps -back spasm/pain -SIjoint dysfunction -cervical pain -rotator cuff injuries -frozen shoulder -thoracic outlet syndrome - carpal tunnel syndrome
-plantar fascitiis - anterior compartment syndrome - shin splints -iliotibial band friction syndrome -whiplash injuries -compressed disks -decreased flexibility -tendonitis/tendinosis- scar tissue- sports injuries.
